Brendan Coyle, born on December 2, 1962, is a renowned British-Irish actor. Born in Corby, Northamptonshire to an Irish father and Scottish mother, Coyle's family originally hailed from County Tyrone, Ireland. Coyle's acting career gained significant recognition with his Olivier Award-winning performance in "The Weir" in 1999 for Best Performance in a Supporting Role. His breakthrough role came in 2010 as the loyal and enigmatic manservant, John Bates, in the acclaimed period drama series "Downton Abbey."
