Zverev Wins Opening Match, Beats Alcaraz

Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev won his opening match at the Australian Open on Monday, beating fourth-ranked Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in four sets.

Zverev, who is seeded 13th, won 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in 3 hours and 14 minutes.

"I was kind of just hanging on," Zverev said. "I was able to find a way to win, and that's all that matters."

Zverev will next face either No. 23 Karen Khachanov of Russia or qualifier Jason Kubler of Australia in the second round.
