May 13, 2024 at 11:52 AM

WEB Governor Wes Moore, Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, and Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wes Moore held a press conference on Monday, May 13, 2024, to announce the approval of Maryland's Internet for All proposals. The approval will enable the state to access $2.677 billion in federal funding to support efforts to expand broadband internet access to underserved communities.

The announcement comes as part of the Biden administration's $65 billion Internet for All initiative, which aims to provide affordable, high-speed internet to every household and community in the United States. Maryland is one of the first states to receive approval for its proposals, reflecting the state's commitment to closing the digital divide and ensuring that all Marylanders have access to the essential services and opportunities available online.

The funds will be used to support a range of projects, including: expanding broadband infrastructure to unserved and underserved areas; providing affordable broadband service plans for low-income households; and promoting digital literacy and training programs to help Marylanders fully utilize the internet.
