Sakkari Crashes Out of Roland Garros in First Round Upset
Maria Sakkari's 2024 Roland Garros campaign has come to an abrupt end after a shock defeat in the first round.
The sixth seed, who started the season with a lukewarm 5-4 win-loss record, was defeated in straight sets by Varvara Gracheva, 4-6, 3-6.
The match started well for Sakkari as she took the first set 4-6. However, Gracheva fought back in the second set, breaking Sakkari's serve twice to take the set 3-6. Sakkari was unable to recover in the third set, losing 4-6 and crashing out of the tournament.
Gracheva will now face off against Garbine Muguruza in the second round of the tournament.
